WebOS games running on the #N900 #Maemo!!

Sometimes it really help to have a hardcore community :)

The biggest news for the N900 lately apart from the release of PR1.3 has to be the work done by Javier S Pedro that allows N900 users to run WebOS games natively on Maemo!

Please see below for a video demonstration:

If you want to know how to do it our friends at My-Maemo.Com have a quick howto

PR 1.3 is finally available on the Tablet-Dev nokia repository #N900 #Maemo

If you are like me and don’t run a Windows machine, you’ll be happy to know that the flasher image has been released for PR1.3.

Here is a screenshot:

The link to the website is http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php

You will need you IMEI and of course a backup of your N900 before you proceed (and also at least 50% of your battery life).

Please remember that it will wipe ALL your settings!

If you don’t remember the procedure to flash it is:

1. Switch off you N900

2. run the following command (with the correct image for your location)

sudo ./flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

3. You should see a waiting for device message, at this point open your N900 keyboard, hold the u key and plug the usb cable

4. A message saying that the flashing has completed should appear and your N900 should restart.

News this week in the Maemo/MeeGo world #N900 #Maemo #Meego

The site has been pretty quiet for a while now, If you follow me on Twitter/Identi.ca you probably already know that I had to send back my N900 for repair because of some touch screen issues (it started randomly pressing the right side of the touch screen without me doing anything or switching to widget mode on the desktop even after a full reflash) so now I am without my beloved device for up to 4 weeks, it’s going to be tough, especially at a time where the first preview of MeeGo has come out.

It is a lot more difficult blogging about the N900 when you don’t have one but I am going to try to keep the site updated at least one a week. I will keep posting in Twitter and Identi.ca fairly regularly, it is quite easy because I follow some trusted posters and I thank them in advance for keeping me on top of the latest N900 related new.

To stay in this spirit I am posting a compilation of things that happened this week.

MeeGo 1.1 UX pre-versionĀ  has been released

Video demo of Meego 1.0 for Netbooks #Meego

This video shows you Meego 1.0 running on a Netbook, you can discover the UI that is very similar to what was Moblin 2.1 before the project merge with Nokia.

Unfortunately unlike Moblin that was running fine on my Dell D420 (ultra portable laptop with a Core Duo ULV) this version doesn’t seem to start.

Thankfully someone managed to make it run on a Netbook :)

Want to downgrade your N900 from Leaked PR1.2? Here’s how to do it. #N900 #Maemo

I DON’T TAKE ANY RESPONSABILITY IF YOU FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING STEPS, YOU DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

To do this you will need :

  • the command line flasher3.5 tool (all the downlown links are in this wiki post http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware )
  • The firmware files for PR1.1.1 and Leaked PR1.2

Before you do this you need to understand that it will leave your phone in a “mixed state” the main firmware will be 1.1.1 but the modem firmware will be Leaked 1.2, it is the only way to retrieve phone capabilities.

I have done it using Ubuntu 10.04 but it should be approximatively the same on Windows, you will just need to open a command line with administrative right (type cmd in the run/search option and then ctrl+shift+enter if you have Vista or W7, with XP you should just need to open a command prompt)

Open a terminal and navigate to where your firmware are stored then type:

sudo ./flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

Once you receive the following output

At this point the phone will reboot and you will see that you don’t have access to your phone network (it will show a barred SIM sign). You must deconnect the phone from USB and switch it off again.

We are now going to flash it back with the modem of the Leaked PR1.2, type as follow.

sudo ./flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.12-9_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin –flash-only cmt-mcusw -f -R

After that scare, that should teach you (and me ;-) ) to not installed leaked unfinished software !!!
